sweetich

Depends on the environment you would be planning to keep it in and if it could be controlled with a sweetitch rug really. Difficult to say clearly yes or no really!

Ad just says it can be controlled. Horse looks like a nice safe allrounder and something I could do a tiny bit of hunting on but then Im not sure about the sweetitch.

He'd be kept on the side of a hill but would be stabled at night.

I have bought and sold a horse with sweetitch. I got her cheap from a sale with barely any mane and tail. I put her in a field with nothing she could rub on and applied sweet itch lotion and fly spray daily. She soon grew a lovely mane and tail but i had to keep a close eye on her whenever she was in so that she wouldnt rub it out again.

The new owners knew all of this when i sold her and it didnt seem to worry them.

edit: if you are going to have him/her live in, it may be difficult to keep him from rubbing

If I were you I would find out how they control it atm, and ask for a v up to date pic - if he can keep a mane and tail it will be clear by this time in the season what sort of state it is in.

If you would be prepared for the cost and maintinence of a sweetitch rug, and would be happy to keep the horse rugged in it from march to oct, and assuming the field is fenced with elec fence (ideally, but def no barbed wire) and away from standing water or groups of trees then I would consider it.

I would expect a horse to be cheaper with sweetitch as you will be taking on a larger cost for a couple of good quality sweetitch rugs and also the careful management the horse would need. Not difficult management admitidly, but something you must be prepared to take on. Is the horse everything you want in other respects?

I bought pony with S-I, I didn't know he had it (was early april) a few baths with decent shampoo, a rambo hoodie and daily morning visits to yard to smoother him in fly spray has worked wonders. His field is completely electric, which is fine as they get strip grazed anyway. I wouldn't let it put you off x
