Hi guys, bit of advice please!!
Anyone had the SI injection?

My first pony (sig) is out on loan been there for 3 yrs this april. He is a 12.2 highland x, he has never had lami in his life although always has a good belly even when in full work everyday, just his breeding i am told! anyway he suffers from SI for about 8yrs now, it was v bad last year he was on cavellese liquid double dose on vets advise. The lady who has him is a vet nurse and she has been advised (by her vets) to have the injection this year, we have said yes do it as we want him comfortable and they are hoping to do some little shows. He does have a rug on and is indoors when worst flies.

My main worry is it is a steroid and therefore can cause lami...has anyone any experience of this?
Do you think it is worth it? He is also having D-itch daily and use camrosa.

Thanks, chocolate brownies for all those who read!

Don't do it

My 16hh Selle Francais x Native cross went down with Steroid induced lami from a jab for sweet itch

I'd never risk it again - or would choose oral steroids that don't persist in the system

Horse in question, had no belly and competition fit at the time:

I have gone for short term injections for my highland that only last 6 weeks as she is a lami risk and they have been fine however would not do the full steroid version that lasts a lot longer.

he is only having the 6weekly one.
thanks for your advice, i am going to see them tomorrow so will talk properly then. The vet should be around too so that will be useful!!
