My horse does my head in!!

He came in this evening with swelling above both sides of his off hind fetlock. It was squishy and not particularly warm esp. when compared to other fetlock but definate swelling. It goes up about 4 fingers on both sides. I cold hosed it and it went down slightly but still there.

He does have a small (2 cm) cut on his fetlock but he did this nearly 2 weeks ago and it seems pretty clean. Could be infection or is there something more sinister that could have happened?

As luck would have it I'm having supper with our vet tonight so will ask him but just wondered if anyone had any ideas?

Sounds like a windgall but I'd be suspicious if its just appeared. I'm guessing horse is not lame?

My mare presented with exactly the same swelling and the lameness was so slight i was scratching my head for a few days before i got the vet. She has distal tendon sheath synovitis (original swellign noticed in AUGUST and still not resolved)!
