Swelling around healing wound...

Should I be worried?

My ISH came in from the field a couple of weeks ago with an incision cut on the outside of his hind cannon bone (presumed to be caused by wire.) It was bleeding a fair bit, but I cleaned it up and put some purple spray on it and it has gradually healed and scabbed over. Today I noticed that there although the wound appears to be healing nicely, there is some swelling around the edge of the cut. He is not lame, and there is no heat in his leg, he isn't too keen on having it touched though.

I'm not sure if I am worrying over nothing, or whether it is likely to be something more serious? Should I pick the scab off and allow it to drain again and then start the healing process again or leave it well alone? I have been riding him as normal and he seems absolutely fine - even brushing and washing around it, but it is obviously still a bit tender to be touched. I washed around it today, and put some cream on it to take away the soreness.

I am thinking, give it a few more days and then get the Vet if there is still no improvement? I'm hoping it might just be swollen slightly as it is healing. 'Puffy' is probably a more accurate way of describing it that swollen.

Any advice much appreciated. :)
