My horse came in from the field today with a large swollen area behind his knee. The swelling is fairly firm and a little warm and covers the whole area behind the knee. The actual knee cap seems unaffected. I trotted him up and he seems sound. I can't find any sign of a wound and it doesn't seem painful.
I rode him yesterday and he was absolutely fine. He is in good health generally. I'm reluctant to call the vet if it's just a bang or something but I'm not happy to ride him without knowing what this is.
Any ideas/advice greatly appreciated.
