Swelling both front legs

20 year old ex carriage horse so has had a hard life previous. No lameness or heat at all with this.

But hard solid swelling , no fluidy feeling at all, both front legs back of the cannon bone.

No difference on a bute trial. Xrays planned.

Vet is stumped.

Wonder if anyone would have any ideas of what it could be?

My first thought would be general bone remodelling of the type you get from splints and kicks to the lower leg just due to a hard life. If he's sound and there is no heat he's probably had it a while and it isn't going to change. Just IMHO.

Check ligament is a possibility.It can present as a chronic injury .
But it’s likely it’s a Bony type issue the ground is hard in fields and all sorts of high mileage horses will be suffering.

I'd hazard at some sort of bone changes too if he's had a hard life. The ground is causing all sorts of issues up here just now, having gone from solid hard to soaking wet. We have a few with suspected abscesses and one that's jarred from running around and possibly slipped.

Feels like bone changes to me and possibly some fusing somewhere.
