hi, i was wondering if any one could give me some answers on why my horses pectoral muscles would be swollen. she has been on box rest for a week after a kick on the knee. has this got anything to do with it.
any ideas or experiences are welcomed.
thankyou.

maybe a shot in the dark!! but the way some horses lie down with their front feet tucked underneath their chest can cause bruising espeecialy if shod, and maybe she is lying down more then usual because of the box rest she's relieving some pain. otherwise has she been stung?? x

I'm not sure what would have caused the bruising but any swelling in that area will natural drain down to cause swelling in that area due to gravity. A simple fly bite can cause swelling similar to what I think you are describing.
