My thoroughbred mare had a very swollen leg recently, her knee was swollen but nothing above that. We have been cold hosing it upto 3 times a day for a week now and all the swelling has gone down however on the outside of her cannon bone there was a sab which we picked off to show pink skin underneath. There was a bit of blood and some yellow stuff but we hosed that off and now it is clear. Surrounding this bit of skin is a lump and it has not decreased in size at all.
The vet came out and said to phone in a few days for antibiotics, so is this likely an infection or possibly a splint?
Any help would be nice
oh... she has never been lame throughout this, jsut a bit stiff but we put this down to her knee being swollen
