Hi,
Bailey has a a swelling that begins just behind his front legs and stops half way down his belly. It is equal on both sides raised about half ab inch and even with no heat/pain. It is firm like flesh
It seemed to appear after the physio treated him 2 days ago but maybe be a little before- previous to this he had 2 weeks off due to tweaking his pelvis. No change in size or shape - possibly a little smaller
It suggests an Edema but I'm not sure? Do you get fatty deposits in this area? He seems happy so I am reluctant to get vet out!
Any ideas?

Has he been stood in for a while? I had a TB gelding that got similar swelling when on box rest for any length of time, it went down when he was walked out in hand.

Sounds like Odema. Does it have a memory foam like texture, stays a bit indented if you press it then fills out again? My mare has this and likely to be related to her loss of fitness and weight gain over about three months. Vet tested bloods, no liver issue and no heart failure as these are related to odema. Concluded it was more likely to do with her weight as she scores as a 3.5/4 at the moment! We are working on this!

I would def speak to your vet asap. Any swelling in those areas could be (unlikely!) heart failure and fluid build up in the chest area. Like I say, highly unlikely, but best to be sure!:)

Ditto this. Exactly the same as my chap.

I think this may be baileys issue too... He has lost all his muscle and "condition" but has chubby tummy and bum! The girl I share the ard with had the same with her chap when he was out of work!
I'm going to monitor until Monday then get vet to look!

I know what you mean by the fatty deposit type lumps - my mare has developed these in the past year or so since she hasn't been in much work - they do look like a lump/indentation (depending on which way you view it) and are hard to touch. But they developed over a year as she got chubbier and out of condition. I'm not sure they would develop so quickly as two or so days.

I doubt it's anything to worry about - these things usually cause us so much stress but turn out to be nothing! :)

It most have been there longer - because he has been off for a few weeks hasn't been groomed to much - naughty mummy! Just looked at a picture of him doing stretches with the physio and i can see it so it didn't appear after that!

Bit of a mystery but I'm sure we will work it out - as he is happy and no pain I won't worry too much - just keep reading horror stories!!

It sounds like it could be just a gain in weight then! Particularly if it's hard! Let us know how it is over the next few days!
