I've just been out in the field with my TB mare, was about to tack up when I noticed a swelling under her jaw. It's just below where the noseband sits, (behind the "wobbly" bit of the bottom lip) a couple of inches in diameter and fairly hard. It wasn't there yesterday, though over the weekend I noticed a small bump in the same place which I thought I was imagining - apparently not.
She is eating fine and was her usual overexcited self when I turned her back out...no runny nose, etc. I thought the right hand side of her face looked slighly wider than the left but again I'm not sure whether I'm suffering owners' hypochondria!
Will ask vet to come and look tomorrow but has anyone had a similar experience? Are there glands that far down?

My horse has a swelling which sounds similar to what you are describing. Please let me know what the vet says - I have been putting it down to an allergy in the field. My horse also has 'grass glands' up either side. I will be interested to know what your vet says

Mines got the same at the moment, although a little higher up. Vet agrees it's probably from a thorn or he's bashed it. he's on antibiotics and it's being polticed twice a day.
Worth getting vet to check even if it's just for antibiotics and check it's not tooth related (although very unlikely from where you say it is)
