Ok, so with a billion cases a day just in Wherevershire reported in the media, how many peeps on here have actually had it or got it now ?

My son has had it. Rest of family all had Tamiflu so didn't catch it but have had exposure to the virus.

Theres a post in Soapbox about it. Seems to be a fair few of HHOers that have had it or know someone who has

I would post a link to it but I'm rubbish at it

Well I dont want it, self employed so no pay, also "ordinary" flu I had last time was horrible, really poorly with it and I have no underlying health issues, I was hopeing it was more media hype like the aids thing, remember when that first came out, we were all pretty much gonna get that even if you only had a handy

I work for a Health Authority, it is no worse than normal flu but for people with underlying health problems and those who are under 5 and over 65 it can be serious. A large number of people die every year of the normal winter flu and this for some reason is not picked up by the media, but because this has spread worldwide it is picking up a lot of media coverage. We as the NHS are now treating the virus and not swabbing if you have any concerns each Health Authority has an incident line that is published on their websites they also have all the latest information on Swine Flu and over the next few weeks will be publishing daily figures on flu cases or you can go to NHS Direct either their website or phone number to get advice, we are not taking this situation lightly as every case is different or contact your GP. It was thought that the heat may kill this virus off but this has so far not happened. Hope this is helpful but the websites are a great source of information and are being kept up to date on a daily basis.

That's what annoys me - the fact they 'forget' to mention the amount of people who die every year from normal flu!

He wasn't too poorly, probably lasted two days properly and two days getting better. He was no worse than if he had an ear infection or something. It seems to be a relatively mild illness unless there is an underlying health risk.

my dad suspects that I may have it not long since been back from Miami and I have a rotton cold, snotty nose, sneezing, headaches and all lemmy but more than likely just change in climate though if I went to doctors and mentioned it they'd try and jam needles into me to get blood samples and I do NOT do needles!

Err, seeing as it came from Mexico, which is a bit on the warm side, is that not a daft thing to hope?

Thanks for the info though, very useful. There seems to be a lot over-reaction to this whole Swine flu thing, it's no worse than normal flu. My Nan died last year with complications from normal flu (but she was 88 and had been ill for years thanks to a lifetime of smoking) so I know that it can be dangerous, but for 99% of the population it's no big deal.

It's likely that you do have it. Do not go to the docs, they are not sending samples off now, they are just diagnosing from the symptoms. Ring NHS diret for advice.

Ok, But I always thought if I had it id be bed bound? Work have said if some on contracts it at work they'd have to send everyone home and shut the office.

The disease status has changed, schools etc are no longer closing. If you have it you stay at home until you are better then return, just like normal flu. You may be prescribed Tamiflu.

I'm going to be swabbed tomorrow, been ill for two weeks now, really lethargic, painfull aches, swollen glands cough. They are not sure wether it is swine flu or Glandular fever, but I have asthma and supposed to be going on holiday in 3 weeks so need to know really. All the schools in the area have it, including my son's, a friend has just come down with the same symptons too

It's everywhere!

School next to my daughter closed last week.... they are all back now and daughter said they would not close again.

Just keep away from the sneezy snotters...... In Argos on Monday there was a really sneezy person looking at the catalogues..... I moved pretty damn quick!!!

I dount it, I just feel like i have a cold and sometimes dizzy and sick beacuse of the headaches. When I was on holiday I had 2 days where I couldnt leave my room due to dizzyness, sickness and the other felt awfull

Well I was a possible case as my brother was diagnosed on monday, but today I can sy that yes I do have it. Not bed bound but I do feel terrible with aches and fatigue more than anything. I'd say normal flu is much worse and I'd rather have it now than at winter.

Just debating whether to call my doc to ask for tamiflu or to sit it out.....

I don't know anyone who's had it yet, oddly enough. I'm sure it will make its way to us soon though! I'm not especially worried, as long as my grandad doesn't get it! He's got emphysema... swine flu would not do him ANY good.

I have it. And to be honest I am fine. I have a seriously sore throat, headache and the rest of my body aches and my chest is tight and I have a cough BUT it is actually not bad. Can't be bothered to ride as what's the point I ache. But everything else is OK. The media are really hyping it as serious but having had winter flu a couple of years ago - give me swine flu every time.

i havent had it yet but would pefere to have it sooner rather than later! i agree with bosworht the media are just hyping it up, not to worried really
xxx

I have been sent home from work today and I am to remain at home until better. I have been given tamiflu.
I work in my local Dr's and have been unwell since Saturday. Sunday and Monday I couldnt move aches and pains, fever etc was off sick Monday. As I am new to the job (didnt want to get sacked for being off sick lol) dragged myself in yesterday and today but today am still really unwell so got myself an appointment. Dr suspects Swine Flu and I am now home.

Im not good, My head aches and am all sniffy and snotty and flemmy and my throat hurts! and am knackared yet every nigth this week ive had atleast 8 hours sleep! not fair lol

I just had the funniest experience with a doctor ever! He insisted he came out to take my temperature as I didn't have a thermometer....He arrived, wouldn't come in the house, stood at arms length to stick the thing in my ear and them stood as far away from me as he could to talk to me without having to shout.... Where on earth do they get them from eh!?
