swishing tail and twiching withers?!!!

Anyone have any ideas why my friends mare is swishing her tail and twiching her withers when she rides her??she has only been doin it this last week or so...
Her back is perfect had it done monday,teeth fine had them done in feb!!
saddle fine had that done in march..
Shes happy has ears pricked the whole time n works lovely but is swishing n twiching i think its peeing my friend off more then her mare!!
any ideas???
she is quite a sensetive horse!!!but this is driving my friend mad!!
and seems to be worse if shes sweating my friend has changed fly spray that is all she can think off ??!!!
 
it sounds like what they do when they've got a fly on them or something is irritating them.. if her back is perfect that's probably all it is! or maybe if your friend has washed the numnah it could be itching her?
thats all i can think of tbh!

Yes its like when they get a fly on them,all she has done different is using stronger fly spray..
Yea backs perfect when she got off her today she was just putting the tip of her finger over her tummy n she was swishing like she thort she had a fly on her!!!
 
with the belly thing, maybe she's just being mareish? i know mares can be very funny with having their girth area and tummy touched.. specifically if they're in season.. i can't think of an explanation of why she'd do it while being ridden though. is it like constantly while she's being ridden or just every few minutes?
 
its been more so these last 2 weeks she hasent been rode as much and when she gets sweaty she does it more!!

the only things to have changed are not been rode as much,she does seem bit ful of it to n the change in fly spray x

yea seems strange dosent it :/
my friend said she use to do it a while back n then stopped..but she seems happy to be rode n full of energy!!
she had her teeth done in feb n they was fine she has them done every 6-10 months n there always good so its very strange yes:/
When she had her back done monday she was all in good order alos n saddle done in march!!
its like loads of flys are on ehr but none are thanks anyway :) x
 
Sounds like she's in discomfort???? - and obviously trying to say so I would think.

I'd get her back checked as a matter of priority, plus saddle checked as well.

Also, perhaps she's been bitten by flies/horseflies? My boy has sweet itch, and this is the sort of thing he'll do when the midges are bad, so it might be worth bunging on a fly rug if she's out in the field and see if that helps?
 
A friends mare started this - it was narrowed down to a new rug that appeared to fit ok, but was putting too much pressure on the withers and making them sore. Changed the rug and the problem went.
