Last week I moved my horses to summer grazing close to home for the girst time. Normal routine was stabled at night, graze on limited grazing in day supplemented with hay. 26 yr old gelding, owned for 25 years and 15 yo mare owned for 11 years. New routine, graze on plenty of poor quality grass in day, enclosed in a paddock with shelter once dark. Both horses seem happy and settled, and like the elderly mare next door, however my once bossy mare and submissive gelding have switched roles! My gelding is sending my mate away and she'd doing as he says. I'm finding this a bit disconcerting, could it be the settling in period in a new environment?
