A couple of days ago I noticed my horses back legs were slightly puffy and swollen.
He has been out of work for 6-7 weeks (we are waiting for sand school to be finished)
He is turned out all day and stabled at night. (So doesnt stand still all day)
Bandaged back legs and didnt look any better, hosed them with cold water yesterday and after a couple of hours looked much better, but this morning looked puffy again.
Anyone know what this could be?
Thanks for reading

Is he old? Has he been charging about in the field? I always banage my horse after hunting or if he's had a bit of a hard day - even so I get the occasionally puffy day that always goes with turnout or work.

I was always told that if it goes away with work or turnout or comes up in pairs or all four legs not to worry and tio worry when work or turnout doesn't bring the swelling down or you just get one leg on its own.

Hi there,
No he's only 5 and I haven't seen him charging or anything.
Yes I wasn't as worried as its both legs just thought it was a bit abnormal for him, I did have turnout socks on his back legs for around a week but they were obviously only on in the day so Im thinking maybe that had something to do with it, oh I dont know. Thank you for your help.

My five year old is out all day and in at night (up to fourteen hours). He occasionally gets 'puffy ankles' - right up to his hocks overnight. As BMA says, it is not unusual and if the swelling goes down when he's out or exercising no need to worry. I don't bandage because I don't see it is necessary.
