i brought my mare in from the field tonight and immediately saw that she appeared to have a double chin - immediately behind her bottom lip, she had a large swelling on both sides. She was perky, came in and started eating her haylage, and then I tacked up, thinking that if there was an adverse reaction from her, I wouldn't ride. Anyway, we went for a hack and she was as good as ever - the only thing she did was quite a lot of blowing from her nose on the way back. The farmer has been fertilising the fields at the side of her and a lot of the other farmers in the area have been doing the same. As she seems ok and is eating etc, should I just assume it's an allergic reaction? All the other horses from the field seemed ok, but this mare has had a lot of problems in the last nine months with her health, so I'm aware that her immune system won't be as good as the other horses...do you think it's allergic, or something else? Thanks

My mare had the same about 2 months ago & it turned out to be a tooth abcess - keep an eye on it & if it doesn't go down I would def get the vet out.
