Went out to feed the horse this morning to find that her left eye is very swollen, sore and hot. She is eating fine and is well and alert otherwise.

I have called the vet but he isn't able to come out until about 4:30.

Just thought I'd post on here to see if anyone has experienced anything similar or could have any idea what has happened.

Sorry for big pics!

looks like she may have banged it or an infection - try a luke warm tea bag - don't use any steroid creams or anything until the vet comes as if it is ulcered it can pierce the ulcer - not nice - but the tea may help soothe it until the vet comes - it doesn't look too bad - I have had much worse but always best to get it checked out!

It looks as if he has either knocked it or got something in it.

I would bath it with a normal saline solution (You want 9 grams of salt per litre of water or 1 teaspoon of salt per cup (8 fluid ounces) of water)If you can use sterile water , best way is to either buy it or Boil some water and allow it to cool right down.

You could also try and put some ice on it to reduce the swelling.

I would do nothing else until the vet has been.
