my mares eye has been slightly runny the last few days, so have just bathed it, yesterday it was gunky and today it look puffed up and swollen - not sure wat to do, shud i get the vet or just bathe it

I would phone your vet just for advice- they may be able to give you some ointment and drops to put in it so that it clears up quickly. You can never be too careful where the eyes are concerned!.

Bramble - get the vet straight away - eyes are too precious and too complex to leave and hope for the best!

I would personally keep bathing it and put some Brolene ointment in it -advised by my vet before with a same problem, but if youre unsure a call to your vets cant hurt

now, im not normally one of the members that scream get vet get vet get vet at everything and anything - no this is not a dig at you sunnymum - BUT having told an owner about her mares runny eye on the sunday, urging her to get cream straight into it, then seeing it monday and advising her to get the vet, then it worsening drastically over the next 48hrs and becoming white with blindness until we begged her to get the vet on thursday, by which time it was horrendous, vet prescribed the cream (that we had already recommended) and it was too late so an emergency call out was made on the friday and 3 injections later and an eye the size of a golf / tennis ball NO EXAGGERATION, i would be inclined to scream GET VET. eyes deteriorate quicker than anything else ive been unfortunate to witness and altho i try to leave the vet as last resort a) to save money (come on dont we all?) b) to not get known as a panic merchant at my yard, i would do this straightaway for my boys eyes if need be. let us know please and good luck, probably is nothing but best to be sure....

oh and i just noticed my avatar reads addict now, yes its official and highly sackable im sure so must go and do one of them self imposed bans again, last time i did 24hours, today im gonna just head for 5 (until after work/yard visit!)
