When I rode the other day I noticed thet my horse was slightly short on the one front leg, not lame , but just slightly short. The next morning he had a slight swelling just above the outside of his fetlock, but no heat, and still not lame. I gave him 7 days of bute, and 3 weeks rest. The swelling has reduced somewhat, but there is still a hint of puffiness, and he is just slightly short. Any sugestions?

I would look for an abcess in the foot. suprisingly common and if pressure not released then can lead to swelling travelling up leg!

Certainly giving the vet a call for a chat would be worthwhile, just to make sure its not anything that could lead to serious damage. It could easily be that he just pulled a ligament or tendon- still serious and in need of rest, but not the end of the world
