Hi
I'm not sure if anyone can help?
My horse had a small cut on the inside of one of his back legs. The cut was kept clean & is healing okay. He had some swelling just below the cut on his fetlock at the same time- I hosed it twice a day & it cleared after a few days. He wasnt lame at all, although he was rested whilst the swelling went down.
Although it was 2 weeks ago since the small initial cut, yesterday the fetlock was slightly swollen again- he was in the stable all day & I wondered if it was related to this, or whether he had knocked it again. Again he isnt lame on it.
I will hose it again tonight to reduce the swelling, but does anyone have any ideas why this is happening or what my next course of action should be?

Please help!
many thanks

Hi
It does seem to improve once he;s out. I'm just concerned that it could be linked to the cut- i.e. an infection, but then the swelling is hard, not soft.
xx

I would be tempted to turn him out then any fluid that is sitting still will be dispersed. The hard swelling may be a little a little scar tissue which has formed during the healing process. If theres no lameness or discomfort I wouldnt worry too much and keep an eye on it.
