Yesterday while I was putting Cropis conjuntavitus drops in I noticed that she has got a small swelling on her face. Its just at the bottom of her cheek, it feels like a gland and feels fluid filled. The reason I think its a gland is that the other side is slightly raised too. I am tempted to ring the vet today but don't want to over react (like I normally do) It is not sore to touch, she is not bothered by it, she seems her nomal self, is eating ok???

Has anyone got any idea what glands these are and do you think its ok to wait until Monday to ring the Vet?

Thanks

Tricksy

Thank you, she is out 24/7 at the moment and eating constantly! Her nose is fine, I had a good look at it yesterday for any discharge, I also gave it a good wash so I will be able to see today if she has had any gunk, I'll go and get a thermometer today so that i can take her temperature. She woofed her diner down last night and had a couple of apples with no problems as well. I think I might be panicking a bit

- My mare gets them all the time in the Spring/Summer, hers can stay up for weeks (they reduce slightly during the day while she is stabled, but she isn't in long enough for them to go down completely).

The glands were not as pronounced this morning when I went down there and by this evening you can hardly see anything. I'm sure she just likes to keep me on my toes!! I'm glad that I asked on here first and didn't call the vet out, I would of been very embarassed

Agree with what others have said - Lots of horses at our yd are having swollen glands currently....now the spring grass is coming through. It is due to production of saliva used in digestion.

My boy looks like a little hampster, his cheeks are so swollen its funny to look at him. The mares opposite my stable suffered really badly last week to the point where they had droopy cheeks.

Poor little horses atm, hugs to them all with their swollen faces
