Hey guys, I need some advice please, this evening when I brought my horse in for the night, I noticed his off side glands were very swollen. The swelling runs from the base if his ear down the side of his face, down his jowel and underneath, he has the dame on the other side but not as big, his lips were a bit pale but was bright enough in himself and wasn't acting or looking under the weather.

Any suggestions would be really gratefully received as I don't want to call the vet out unless I have to, obviously if it is still swollen tomorrow I will do. He had his teeth done 4 months ago

It sounds like grass glands have developed due to extra grass around now, nothing to worry about they usually go right down if stabled overnight.

I had something similar with my horse a few yrs ago, went to bring him in & noticed glands up as I out on his headcollar. No other symptoms, horse usual self. I hadn't had him long & was a bit over protective so called the vet who examined & ran bloods on him & found nothing. A week later he presented me with a foot abscess! Guess it was his system dealing with the beginnings of the infection.

Most of the horses on the yard have had these this week, with the fresh grass coming through - as be positive says, they should go down when stabled. If they don't or your horse looks lethargic, give the vets a ring for a chat.

Kool thanks guys for that, they did seem to have gone down a bit after an hour of not been on the grass (it could have been wishful thinking)!! Will have a check again tomorrow before I decide on vets,

My boy's had grass glands for the last couple of weeks. Interestingly enough today they weren't as large. Have taken to riding in the morning until this passes, which it will

Thanks for all your help guys, glands were back to normal this morning, saved me a heck of a lot of money!! Be interesting to see if they are back up again this evening
