My horse Jack has a swollen hock. Things 1st started about 4 weeks ago when we were on our last week at our previous yard. I had gone up as normal to muck out before work and was mucking out when jack moved and I thought that doesnt look right. I got him out of his stable and walked him up and he was very stiff and sore in his hock but there was no swelling or heat. I put him out in the field that day as he is one of those whom is better out rather than being in. The night before all this he came in as normal was not lame etc.

What I think he may have done is got cast or got up awkwardly. (Jack is an expert at getting cast so he has massive banks which has helped over the past year or so he hasnt been cast once).

It came to the end of that week and we were due to move yards which we did by trailer due to him being a bit lame with his hock. Over the next few days the swelling came out.

At the new yard I kept him out with his field friend as he is better out. I had been putting a cool gel on the area which was helping the swelling, but due to lack of rain meaning lack of grass we moved them last week into the next field where he had a good run round as they all do.

Well.......now the swelling is as bad as it was a couple of weeks ago! :(

So I have now decided to get the vet out this week as its not going to go dwon with him having his run arounds. This will mean a lot of moving around to make sure he can see his friends whilst being the only one stabled (Jack likes to do a sponsored walk when on box rest)
Here is a pic not very good sorry....
