Norman metr one of his new field friends yesterday, seemed to get on whilst next door to each other in the stables.

Turned them out together, and all was quiet for a minute then they started to kick each other, so Norman is now in another field but he had one injury to the inside of his hock, which has now swollen up, he's not lame on it, he puts full weight on it but it is tender to touch. YO and me thought it would go down with turnout as he had to be stabled overnight whislst rearranging field. Question is, do I need to call the vet or would a poultice or similar help?

Cold hose, sticky leg - if no better in a couple of days the vet will want to xray, then scan and drain - do not let them try and fob you off with box rest - I have just come through this and the only way to see any improvement was in Donks case to drain the synovial fluid - I have wasted at least 6 weeks, once I was refered - SORTED

Looking at that you can almost see the bruising - make sure it does not swell anymore and keep hosing and hosing and hosing - then if no improvement follow my instructions. Donkey's was caused by going splat like bambi out hunting and pulling ligaments etc

Had this a couple of years ago on the yard. Vets took x-rays and found two pieces of broken bone. The horse had successful surgery at Willersley.

It does seem to have gone down ever so slightly. Been cold hosing, and had a sachet of bute today. Not lame at all in walk, trot on hard ground or cantering and craziness in field!

Quick update on Norm, the swelling has gone down to virtually normal, he's not tender when touched and still sound so fingers crossed that's it! New shoe next week hopefully, then I shall be able to ride him (first time in new home!)
