My mare has a swollen knee it has been like this for 3 weeks now, I hose it and put ice pack on it when it first showed swelling hoping it would go down.
I got the vet out the following Monday to scan the knee to see what the problem was, it was found that she has a little tendon damage but shows no signs of lameness and passed the flexion test no problem, the vet said get it rescanned in 4 weeks and gave me some volitaire (think thats what its called!) cream and a pressage for her to wear, he did say to be careful as the pressage could rub her knee, she is kept in during the day and turned out at night in a small turnout paddock so she doesn't run around too much!
I have taken the pressage off her as a scab was appearing, not sure what to do now, feel as I'm not doing a great deal and I'm sure there must be something I should be doing to help perhaps cold hosing or ice packs? I have got a pair of soft knee boots that I have considered putting on her as the vet seems to think her injury was caused by her kicking her stable door or getting up from lying down so thought they would protect her.
Any ideas?
