Horse was lame this morning. There are no cuts (if there were so much as a graze he WOULD NOT let you touch him as he's a massive pansy!) and he's perfectly happy for the knee to be touched, he is reluctant to bear weight or bend so I'm assuming he's slipped and sprained it.

Would you just cold hose and box rest? Perhaps ask the vet and see if they'll post pain relief and anti inflamms?
 
Why on earth would you ask the vet to post pain relief? If you have a horse reluctant to weight bear and swollen joint it is an emergnecy until proven otherwise.
 
Ice, Box rest and vet out ASAP! Non-weightbearing is not something to be trifled with. It generally means serious damage. Plus no vet in their right minds would just post out drugs with or without seeing the horse first!
