Right, started my mare on her course of bute last night to see if that made any difference to her strides etc. Well this morning, the leg we think is the problem has swollen. Very localised around the fetlock area and slighty higher. There a small cut there but this was done ages ago???? Could bute make there legs swell????

It's very unlikely that bute would make the leg swell as it is actually an anti-inflammatory. Sounds like the swelling could be the cause of her problems.

yeh thats what I thought, just odd how it suddenly appears after having the bute...

If this is the cause of the problem, then theres obviously something going on in her fetlock instead of hock which we thought???

Bute could cause swelling since pain is natures check to stop a horse further damaging inflamed tissue, and bute removes that pain. Maybe the horse has consequently overdone it.
