Swollen leg - what is it

Horse had bad kick injuries to OSH cannon and a chunk of flesh from around the stifle area on the 11th July. Since then had been diagnosed with a hairline fracture. This seems to have been OKd by the vet after a couple of weeks box rest. Started ten mins walking out. All OK - but had swelling to tendon area inner cannon, below hock. Vet was not too concerned. Said that there was a boney enlargement where the fracture had been and this may be interferring with tendons. Advised to increase work and small pen turn out. Was one tenth lame at this point. A couple of days ago, the leg swelled up in the cannon area and down like a big windgall. So given day off on small pen turn out. Bought in at night and bandaged after cold hosing. Now has massively swollen upper leg... around the stifle area where the hole wound was. Very very lame! But improved after walking a bit.
Any ideas? Obviously am calling vet. But wondered if you had any ideas. Leg also swollen below on cannon too...

could be a infection from the kick wound or poss lymphangitis, hope the vet can shed so light on it for you and that hes better soon

Yes, I thought for some reason lymphangitis only showed when present in all four legs, but that's not the case.

Sounds like antibiotics may be the order of the day. See what your vet thinks when he comes.

Thank you so much! As applecart knows - it is now diagnosed as possible OCD. osteochondritis dissecans . Waiting for confirmation on this with Xray
