Alisha came in from the field on saturday with a small cut. Was taking her SJ so cleaned it up and it was fine, booted her up and got her to the show. Took travel boot off and the cut was pumping out blood so bandaged it up and took her home without jumping her. Kept the cut covered for the first couple of days. Have been bandaging front legs in the stable and she has had brushing boots on in the field. It was looking a lot better this morning. However, I brought her in from the field tonight and took the boots off and the leg with cut is really swollen so put leg ice on to reduce heat, cleaned the cut and have re-bandaged tonight. Should I be keeping it covered, or should i let the air get to it? Was considering keeping her in tomorrow but I think she will do more harm than good in as she gets wound up in her stable when she doesn't have company.

I would be very careful, are you sure he hasnt got cellulitis. I had a horse a few years ago the same, cut his leg and the bacteria got into it, he was out of action for some time have you seen a vet? good luck.

Oh dear, I will see what it is like in the morning. Haven't had the vet out as up until today the leg has not been swollen. She was very slightly lame last night but there was not heat or swelling in the leg.

Mine had the same really small cut (about 2 cm deep) but massive swelling. I had the vet out about 48 hourse after hed done it, the vet pumped him full of drugs, and put him on antibiotics, it had gone in 2 weeks. Could be best for your bobbo to get a vet!

It's not lymphangitis is it? my youngster cleared a post and rail fence when he got caught on something and although there were no cuts over a 18 hours period his leg swelled up and was really painful for himj. I called the vet who said it was lymphangitis, it normally happens with a cut but can also happen from a hard bang (apparently). I'd suggest getting the vet

Problem solved...Had the vet out last night, she has a puncture wound about an inch deep

Vet said there was no way I could tell from looking at it, which I was relieved about! He has flushed it out, bandaged it all up - the cut is only about 2cmx0.5cm and she has a huge bandage from just above her hoof to her knee!

He has given me antibiotics to give her and she is on box rest for about a week.
