One day I brought my horse in from the field and there was a sticky substance on her shoulder just below her withers. I checked it out and looked under her skin but there was no cuts, bites or anything there, I also noticed that her face was patchy due to hair loss. The next day when I brought her in again the stuff was there accept there was a huuugeee cut/bite under it! I told my mum and she came to look at her straight away and then we checked over her whole body and more and more seemed to appear, her back legs were the worst and they were also swollen. We thought it was sweet-itch but she wasnt rubbing her tail and her body at all.

Has anyone else had their horse have this? If so, do you know what it is?

Hi, it sounds like tree sap on your horse, mine have come in with the sticky stuff on them before.
It does sound like she has been rubbing, maybe when you just havn't been there, have you checked her for lice. The horses in the field next to ours are riddled in lice and are always covered in sappy stuff as they rub them selves on the tree's all the time, and cut them selves from rubbing really hard.
Her legs could be swollen from a reaction to all the bites, and the hair loss does sound like lice.

Id give her a good bath with some insecticdal shampoo and see if you can see anything whilst she's wet.
