Hi
I took my horse away on holiday with some friends (annual trip) 5weeks ago however the lorry broke down. They were on it for 10hours before they finally arrived. My horse was very unsetteled and hyper, he had ran out of hay and soon as this happens he gets impatient so I can only imagine what he was like when they were waiting for a rescue lorry!
Anyway, after a couple of days riding I noticed he has a swollen lump over 3 of his vertabrae on his back. It wasnt sore but I ended up getting the vet out anyway as his behaviour was terrible (he had been playing up before we went away) and I was convinced it was his mouth. Turned out he had a nasty ulcer high in the corner of his mouth where the bit would be so I didnt ride for the rest of the holiday.
I took him to the vet when I got back for a back x-ray and it was clear, the swelling was still there but it had gone down considerably and the vet confirmed there was no pain and that once the ulcer was gone I could ride again. He said it had probably been tweaked on the lorry and would go down.
I had a lesson last week and when I untacked the swelling was back and quite large again. It has gone down and didnt come back when I rode last night although I didnt work him as hard. Has anyone else had this before? How long does it take to go down?
Thanks!
