Hello,
Just checked on the horses and gave them a bath due to this heat (24.c) and notice Benji (who is prone to reactions from bugs etc) to have a swollen sheath on one side just hanging like a golf ball with a clear fly bite on it. It is not painful to touch, just a little hot.
Anyway, I have some Summer Freedom, I was just wondering whether it would be OK to put some in that area? It doesn't state any precautions so I presume it is fine just double checking. What do you use to repeal flies from sheath?
Also, he is showing signs of thrush (so is my Mum's mare) so I was wondering how to treat it? In 11 years of owning horses I have never come across it before fortunately!
Thank you,
Ros

I don't think he has maggots in the sheath as I would expect it all to be swollen, it is only on one side. I think it is purely to do with a fly bite (:

They don't need to be swollen to have the problem. Mine presented as colic, no swelling, no smell, no fly bites.
