Swollen sheath on one side!

So having searched and read a few posts it seems lack of excerise is one of many things that could make a sheath swell, there is a little bit heat in it and its only swollen on one side. he is still eating and drinking and running round the field like an idiot! but he has been off doing nothing the whole of this month he was doing riding club etc, so could this be a reason? also wondered if anyone has fed cranberry juice to a horse before? yo thinks maybe urine infection. anyway adive would be nice please, will just add hes a very shy boy so i think in the 2 and a bit years ive had him i have seen his willy twice at most! he doesnt bring it out to pee! oh yea and hes never had this problem before, thanks!

It's just I've heard of horses having a 'bean' which can cause problems.

Monty had a urinary tract infection that didn't cause swelling like that. Is he a heavy type? Our shire regularly got swollen sheath whenever he was in the stable at the farm I worked at.

Swollen sheath is one of the things that really a vet should investigate, as are urinary tract infections.
I think you need to get your vet to establish why your boy has a swollen, inflamed (and no doubt painful) sheath, and forget the home remedies.

hes not the cleanest as he doesnt bring it out for peeing. but i do clean it every 3-4 months. hes been in field doing nothing most this month, it doesnt look likes it bothering him as i was feeling it today and he just stood there. have given him a bute and will clean it tomo if its worse over weekend will call vet out. they gave me advice on a bute and washing it.
