Has anyone had a problem like this before?

My TB gelding has a few sarcoids on his sheath - over th summer it has got bigger, but recently fell off, just leaving a little bit behind (if that makes sense).... I didnt interfere with it as there wasnt any blood, open skin etc..

However, now (2- 3 weeks after it fell off) his sheath has swollen up (just on the side of the sarcoid), and I dont know what to do... He was actually at the vets yesterday to have an MRI scan and I asked the horse transporter guy to ask the vets if it was ok - unfortunately I dont think this happened, as he said they didnt comment on it. I cant see any puss/ open wound... just getting a bit worried about it

Anything experienced anything similar before??

Funnily enough, Fred had had a large fibroblastic sarcoid just off his sheath for years and the area had gotten so itchy that he ended up biting it off!! The whole area was very hot and swollen and so I got the vet out thinking there was an infection. I was given a weeks worth of antibiotics and told to keep an eye on it.
The antibiotics never made a difference but he was still super itchy (the midges/flies have been horrific this year and seem to gravitate towards his sarcoids no matter what I do). I decided to give him a hot, antibacterial soapy bath in that area everyday and he absolutely loved it!!

He would put his hind leg up as far as he could so I could get right into the corners and make the most hilarious faces because he enjoyed it so much. Within three days he had stopped biting the area but I am still giving him his bath twice a week until the pesky midges die off...

Hey J., it might just be a coincidence as sheath can swell on box rest (due to lymph build up).

When did you last clean it? Dirt also causes swelling.
Another thought - allergic reaction to bites? (if his sarcoid dropped off it may have attracted flies?).
