My poor boys sheath has swollen up on one side about the size of a lemon. I believe its swollen from a bite, the flies are abundant at the moment.
The lump is not totally solid and he does not react when I palpate it.
My trainer had a look and is also of the opinion that its a reaction to a bite :(
He advises to rub some cream for bites on to it and monitor it. If it goes solid then call the vet or if its not gone down by Thursday. I first noticed it yesterday afternoon :( As a guy it makes me wince to think of a bite on ones bits  unless asked for :D has any one else's horses bits suffered such a misfortune ?

Yes, 'fraid so. It does usually go down in a few days. It happens to girls too  there was a great deal of tail swishing and bunny hops and I found a horse fly under my mare's tail in a very unfortunate place.

Yes, one of mine (but strangely not the other) reacts like this to those blimming midge things. His sheath has been known to swell considerably which can be a bit alarming.

The way to stop it in his case is to plaster his sheath in yellow fly cream which has a soothing effect but also acts as a midge deterrent.

Poor Armas. It should go down in a day or two.

Indeed poor boy :o I have applied some cortisone cream so I am hoping that will take down the swelling. As a man I found that amount of swelling scary :(
