I have a 21 year old cob previous riding school horse so done his fair share of work. He developed a large swelling to his right shoulder overnight. Prescribed antibiotics and drained. Although he is more mobile it is tender to touch and he is on his second week of antibiotics and bute. My concern it is still very swollen, he is slightly lame, low in mood, it's painful and no longer draining pus like before. Any thoughts!

If it is still painful then whatever caused the abscess may still be there it is an unusual place to abscess for no real reason, could there be a foreign body in there a tiny piece of thorn could be deep inside, I would continue with hot compressing to encourage draining and if it has not improved by the end of this course of antibiotics ask the vet to scan the area to see if anything can be seen.
