Aww poor Benj - probably the weather!!

Give him a yummy scrummy sugary dinner and see if that perks him up..

Monitor his temp too and see what that is doing.

Hugs x

One of mine is currently off for a month with a virus - coughing especially whilst eating and discharging horrible yellow snot down his nose. He's been on a a 7 days course of antibiotics twice a day plus another 2 weeks of rest to go.

However, my previous horse showed no outward signs at all - he just felt completely dead to ride (when normally he would be full of beans!) so he had to have a blood test which confirmed the rise in the white blood cells.

Neither of them were ever off their food!! So it can vary from nag to nag.

I hope your= find a way to perk him up.

If all else fails I can recommend getting Auntie KJFIT to come and jump him - it's turned my Dec into a 4 year old.

He is still living out?

It may be that he wants his stable - Cairo gets very miserable if left out too long even if he is warm and dry - in fact if left out more than 10 days he will just run out the gate and head for his stable - and by the time you catch up is lying down snoring his head off.

Delia had a virus - was still eating but was very quiet to ride - blood test confirmed this. She then went on to have a lot of weight loss and was generally down.

No, I brought him in as soon as I felt fit enough to start mucking out again.
He does love his stable, and I now have someone bringing him in before I get home. I hope he is just a bit miserable instead of a virus.
Hes not particulary quiet when being ridden.
He has dropped a bit of weight in the past couple of weeks, but I have put this down to being back in work.

I will keep an eye on him over the next couple of days, oh, his feild friend is off box rest as of Saturday so that 'may' perk him up a bit.

Hes turning me grey!

How about taking him out for some fun - maybe a little jumping or dressage to see if this perks him up. If not, simple blood test will tell you if he is out of sorts.

Give the big boy a kiss from me and tell him Mr C hopes to see him at shows next year - he rather took a liking to Benjamim I recall.

Would love to see you - what don't you box him over and we'll go out along the long green - bit muddy but still ok for hacking - Cairo is on form at the moment - will probably insist on racing the hill - he is of the belief that he is 2 again and being far naughtier than Chancer who is acting very grown up.

Would offer to come over to you, but Cairo is too big for my trailer and Chancer only just backed.

My boy was looking a little subdued for a couple of weeks. And every time he was ridden he was kind of running everwhere and not wanting to collect up. Nothing wrong with his back ets.
Then last Sunday it took me 5 minutes to load him to go to a show. Completely unlike him as he is perfect to load. He wasn't being naughty just didn't want to go.
At the show he bronchoed round the warm up ring with me. Again completely out of character, but he wasn't being horrible it was like he just didn't know what to do with himself.

Anyway I pretty much demanded a blood test as I was convinced he was ill. Vet told me absolutely nothing wrong with him which I didn't beleive. Blood test came back and my poor boy was indeed ill with a virus. Just goes to show we know our horses better than anyone.

Anyway his symptoms were:
Being picky about food
Didn't want to stay out for long periods grazing
A little depressed
Out of character behaviour

Unfortunately there are no treatments just lots of rest and TLC

My boy has now has a week and a half off and is feeling so much better. Back to his normal self, eating well and enjoying life.

Good luck with your boy, hope he feels better soon!

Bloods confermed infection more likely bacterial in gut so antis for 7days and now bk to normal being very silly!!
