I am contemplating getting some new stirrup irons of synthetic material to reduce weight of my saddle anyone any recommendations of which ones (brand/ make) to use that are safe ? I have always had metal ones ... Thanks

I think that mine are Thorogood - black plastic. I've had mine for a good 10 years & they're used every day. I really like the way they look with a black saddle. Also, because they don't weigh much, if I lose a stirrup they tend to stay where they are, so are easier to get back. Rather than swinging about wildly & whacking me on the knee or bony bit on top of the foot!

FWIW, before I got the plastic ones, my ordinary stainless ones broke while I was galloping - the bottom half of the stirrup just dropped off & I couldn't work out (until I'd stopped) why I couldn't get my stirrup back!

Also have the black Tgoods for on my jumping saddle. Will be honest I don't notice a difference between them and the metal ones on my DR saddle! Look nice though with a black saddle and super easy to clean - don't have to shine them like SS.
