Evening all :)

Just pondering really... what is the correct turnout for a tack and turnout classes?

This is just for a fun yard competition so I don't really want to spend loads, but having said that as it is a yard competition - competition is FIERCE ;)

So is it black or brown tack, tweed or black/navy jacket, hunter bridle? shirt and tie, or stock? Etc :D

TIA

correct for the type of horse. So if its hunter then tweed and tie, if a hack then navy jacket.
IMO a stock is not correct for showing and always brown tack.

Oooh, that might be a tough decision then!

Tartine is a French native breed

Any ideas there? I had planned on pulling her mane this winter as I've had it up to my eyes with long manes in winter

If you let me loose on her?
I'd have all the feather off, trim around the coronet band, tail pulled and banged to the hocks (cut straight across), jawline trimmed, mane thinned and pulled and plaited to the other side, hooves blacked out, quarter marks and polished to a shine. You in a tweed jacket, shirt, tie, and everything else havana and plain.
Someone might suggest to hog as a cob but I just can't visualise it.

This is how she was turned out (and being so enthusiastic about it!!!). (Minus tail bandage ;) )

As I said its a yard competition, so the colour of the tack didn't matter on the day - but I'd like to be more correct next year. Though buying a saddle for one internal show might be taking things a tad too far!

Same here, she would look smarter with the feathers off if that is acceptable for her breed, the youngster looks good without his, I wouldn't consider hogging her though.

Take off the saddlecloth or get a numnah that hardly shows, the one you are using covers her too much and is incorrect for showing, ideally a brown leather saddle but for local level that is ok, I would probably use traditional stirrups or at least try and get black treads in those so they don't stand out so much.

As we don't do showing in France (apart from breed/grading shows annually) we don't really have correct turnout really. And in SJ/ ODE anything goes. Having said that most Mérens are seen with full mane and tail, as the quality and abundnce of the hair is something they're known for.

However I'm much better at plaiting "normal" plaits than I am a running plait (which I can never get to stay in for more than 30 mins), so I'm almost decided to pull it.

She doesn't have a cob face, and would look completely wrong hogged, so I wouldn't even contemplate it!
