Hello everyone, I am doing a tack and turnout for the first time in a week today and was wondering if anyone had any advice that could give me a bit of an edge and make me stand out from the crowd. I am riding a tiny little chestnut pony in what is expected to be a huge class and I don't want to be overlooked. Thankyou in advance x

I know literally nothing about showing, but I'd have thought the little extras would make a difference. Quarter marks, picking up on colours (matching browband and buttonhole for example) and so on :)

Make sure you are both as clean as you can possibly be.

Make sure your horses leg hair is brushed to show off the good points and in all the right directions. Use a wee bit of mouse or hair gel if it doesn't lie well normally, but remember it should look natural.

If your horse has dark eyes a wee drop of vaseline will help highlight them.

Supreme products do a really good tail spray, you only need the tiniest bit but it really helps the tail shine. Be careful not to overload the mane and tail with products, it can put off judges if they feel overly greasy.

Take lots of baby wipes with you, they are great for last minute cleaning.

A cactus cloth really helps bring up a good shine on the coat, finish it off with a dish cloth with a small amount of baby oil which helps get the last bits of dust off.

Good luck!

This is my favourite last minute thing, before every class.

I put a little baby oil on the muzzle too. Hairspray on the tail before bandaging... Simple, but bold quarter marks are my preference!

And smile ;)
