There's a tack auction coming up near to me, selling off all of the stock of a tack shop that's gone into administration. There's some nice branded stuff including Ariat, Sergio Grasso, Stubben, Jeffries, Thermatex, Weatherbeeta and Mark Todd.

I've never been to a tack auction so have a few questions-
Is the price you pay when you wave your hand including vat?
Do items at auctions tend to still be expensive, or can you get some bargains? I'm going to look for a show shirt and long boots or gaiters, maybe a black show jacket too for hunting.

Cheers

Most will have a reserve on if they are quality items, I think you pay vat on new items & beware of the auctioneers, I've seen them take bids off light fittings

. It's called shill bidding & is illegal but still goes on to boost prices.

The tack auction near me is a monthly auction. they sell good quality tack and you can get a good tidy saddle for about 80-100. its really cheap:) And you see bits and leathers and stuff going for 1-2 pounds. but im not complaining lol:)

If you read the terms and conditions when you register for a buyer's number (when you get there), this will make it clear if there is a buyer's premium. This can be between 0 and 15+% on top of the hammer price.

A good tip it to write down your upper limit on any lots you want to bid for and NEVER exceed this. If you think that you might get carried away, get a friend to bid for you with strict instructions not to exceed the limits.

Auctions are great places for bargains, but don't get carried away. Have fun!
