Hello :)
I'm moving house soon (eep!) which means I will no longer have the luxury of having my horse at home, and will be putting her on livery (double eep!). Today I realised just how much stuff I have for one horse, filling a tack room and a spare stable!!
There is a secure tackroom for my saddles and bridles, and a rug room for big turn out rugs, plus obviously a feed room. So that just leaves the little bits and bobs that seem to take up more space than the big stuff! And I was wondering what those of you on livery yards do with it (eg show rugs, saddle cloths, boots/bandages, grooming kit etc)? Do you keep it at home/in the car and take it with you as/when you'll need it? Or do you keep it in one of those big trunk/box things? Or do you just keep it all loose in a pile with your tack?!
We are limited on space at the new house and the tack room on the yard is huge so have more space there than at home, so was thinking of buying a trunk thingy, but the ones I found where around £300!! So my dads offered to build me one, but was firstly wondering what you guys did with your stuff?
Thanks,
A livery yard virgin :)

Depends on the yard, some have room for loads of stuff while others don't. Have a detailed look to see exactly what space you have for day to day stuff and how secure it is on the yard.

I currently use a homemade lockable wooden trunk on wheels for stuff I need regularly. Most of my stuff is kept at home as space on my current yard is very limited. My car boot serves as a portable tack room and but I just plan ahead when deciding what I need.

At my last yard, I kept a box with boots and numnahs etc (just a cheap plastic container from tesco) and my grooming box in the tack room as they had a seperate one for liveries which had shelves on one side to keep things. I kept my show numnah/rug and travel boots at home.

At the yard I'm at now, there is a seperate room which has built in wooden lockers so I keep everything (spare numnahs, rugs which have come back from the rug wash, boots, show rug, travel boots even the shavings form and buckets which I take to away shows) in that although I do have one of the bigger lockers :)

If you can, find a cheap locker and keep it in the tack room (or wherever you can) at the yard :)

I have one of those patio boxes from home base , it's quite large and doubles as a seat to sit on cleaning tack. It has a hole for a lock. It's plastic and green. Holds quite a lot.

Thank for all the ideas!
Have a built in cupboard at the new house which I've declared my horse storage cupboard, since the OH has already converted the spare room into a gym...! but my car is only a KA, and the boot is taken up by a dog crate, so not much room for tack! The tack room is huge (only a max of 12 liveries, and tack room is bigger than one I saw with 40 liveries!), so plenty of secure space, just trying to think of best way to store it all! Cheapo storage boxes seem like a good choice.. Don't think I will fit my saddlecloths in there tho (note to self: get rid of at least half the massive collection I currently have!!).

Hi, I have a garden box from Homebase, it's plastic and cost me about £40, i use it for boots, numnahs and lightweight rugs etc. i also have a kids trolley thing with three drawers, handy for first aid stuff, shampoos etc and the top drawer keeps my gloves, dressage numbers, spurs and plaiting bands etc nice and handy, I also have a metal box which holds two saddles and has two bridle hooks. It's lockable and came from Robinsons.
