Hi
You first should take a bucket of lukewarm water with a tiny dash of fairy liquid in it. Then use a jay cloth or something similar to remove the dirt using the very slightly soapy water. You will have to run the cloth up and down the bridle parts etc, and you will need to feel some resistance in order to get the dirt off (grease will build up on the underside of the tack especially).

Once thoroughly clean, leave to dry. Then apply your saddlesoap with a slightly damp cloth (if it is regular saddle soap). With a lot of other leather cleaners/conditioners a dry cloth is fine. Then just leave it - No need to wipe over it again with a damp cloth or even a dry one.
