I'm looking to insure my tack and would like recommendations for insurers please? I don't need to insure anything else at the same time. I've found a few different insurers and quotes, but would like recommendations and/or who to avoid.

Thank you.

Hi, do you mind if I ask who you have found so far, I am interested in this too

I don't have all the names to hand as I did the search on my work PC & I'm currently at home. One from memory was insure my horse, another was a general sports equipment insurer and I think I looked at some of the common horse insurance companies although I'm not looking to insure her.

My tack is covered on my contents insurance. Not all companies will do it but the big name ones seem to, the only caveat is it is only covered if it is stolen from my tack room by force (the padlock is broken etc) as opposed to if it is left on a stable door or similar and taken from there. We don't have proper tack rooms at my yard, we all have our own sheds, most of the horse insurance companies seem to want it to be in a brick built building to be covered - hence putting it on my home insurance instead.

Don't forget when insuring it you need to give the cost it would be to get a new one, not what you paid for it. My dressage saddle was only £600 second hand, but as the insurance co does new for old replacement I needed to declare it as an item over £1500 as it would cost that to buy a new one.

Thank you Misog, I had looked at house insurance but it would either be under one of my parents' policies or the OH's parents (we don't currently have our own place). So I thought it would be more feasible for me to get separate insurance for it. The tack room at our place is a padlocked brick building which helps somewhat. It's just trying to work out which companies are decent and which should be well avoided.

Can I ask which house insurance you use? When I was renewing mine everyone refused to cover goods left and stored away from the home!?
Thanks
