Hey guys. Finally decided to sell the lorry once she is MOTd in Feb, wea re buying a 4x4 to aid another hobby we have and its just ridiculous to have 2 big vehicles to keep on the road when i can have a trailer instead.

Sooo......what trailer to get? The biggest thing i am going to miss with the box is the external tack locker - so handy! I have been looking at trailers with tack lockers but can only find the Bateson Ascot and i think to find one of these 2nd hand will be a long shot! Have read up on the Equi-Trek and there seems to be nothing but bad press, plus i dont like the backwards facing idea. I know they do the Trail Trekka but again would be 'needle in a haystack' senario! So an Ifor Williams HB510 is on the cards i think, good robust trailer :) Now obviously these do not have tack lockers, but they have the option of the 'tack pack' which you can pick up second hand easily enough. My question is are these packs worth buying? I wondered about the room they take up at the front of the trailer and if you have to remove them first before unloading horses??

Any advice appreciated :)

I have an Ifor 510 with a tack pack in the front, horse is a 16.2 ID tank. He can only be traveled on his own (muppet falls over in a trailer with partitions in) with full length breast and breech bars and i just have the move the tack pack over slightly to get him out.

However with the partitions in and two horses the tack pack has to be taken out the front before the both horses can get out.

Tack pack holds two saddles, two bridles and exercise boots quite snugly.

I have a 505 and a tack pack. You do have to take it out before the horses. Great for keeping muddy tack out of the car! Bit of a snug fit, but does take 2 saddles, bridles, boots, a hat on shelf etc

Honestly I thought the tack pack was a complete waste of money. The wheel fell off ours the second time we used it. My 18" saddle wouldn't fit in it without getting totally scratched. With 2 small saddles in it it was almost impossible to move in and out of position. The horses chewed all along the edge of it. The door wouldn't close properly after a few months. It has made a large mark inside the trailer from rattling about while in position. And to top it off I really felt it left very little room for the horse's heads, especially in the 505.
Think ours went in the skip.
