How big is you tack room? How big would you like it to be?

Ok drawing up plans for barn....I've decided to have a tack room and at the back have a a freezebrick tack lock up, how big for that too? Also in tackroom need room for rug hanger *not in lock up* Probs put feed stuff in there although quite happy for it to go with hay storage area. Oh the barn is to stable three/four horses. Idealy I quite fancy a sofa and tea making place... How big do you think?

You can never ever have enough storeage space. We have shared tack rooms at the yard. I suppose each room is approx. 10x10 shares between 4 of us. We do have another area where we can stores rugs and anything else we cant get in there but that is in an open barn. I have an awful lot of stuff at home now much to my OH's disgust.

We use one of the spare stables. It fits our tack (theres 4 of us), a big feed bin, 3 dustbins of feed, a big trunk of rugs and several racks for saddlecloths , rugs etc. Then the one next to that has all the bags of shavings, wheel barrows and tools in it. We are lucky that we have big stables though.

Mine is 11 x 16, well, it would have been a good size but hubby decided that it made a better workshop for him. Turns out that the heated pumproom was better for tack anyway (5' x 11') share it with a large pump unit, but there is ample space to hang 4 or 5 saddles and bridles.

I think if I was starting anew and wanted space for everything (feed too?) then I would want at least 10 x 18. Rugs take up a lot of space. Spare space always fills up doesn't it?
I am told that the trick is to be ultra organised "Every thing has a place" and all that. I worked at one yard where there was a separate heated rug room, oh, the bliss!

Oh sorry, just read about your tack lock up, well, that doesn't have to be too big does it, maybe 6' deep along the length of the room?

Think your plans sound too small to me- our pre-fab stables have a tackroom that size and there is not enough room to swing a cat, it has tack for three as well as a trunk and rug rack and its silly small (def couldn't put feeds in too). I'd go at least a min of 14x14 esp if you also want it as feed room, with sofa etc!
Have you thought about having warm water facility and sink in tack room as well- very handy!

Our tack room is FAR too small for the 45 sets of tack in it...all the saddle racks are too close together so you can't get the saddles on without difficulty. There isn't enough storage space either, you always need SO much more than you expect!!
