Ahhh the Sponsored Ride is looming! Have a few bits and bobs to get, so, does anyone know any places in London that aren't Harrods LOL?

Oohh, and any sites which explain a little about the 3 ring gag? Have been advised to get it for Chloe for xc and competitions etc...just want to learn a little more about what I am putting in her mouth

the thing is, Chloe has such a funny odd sized head, that I would need to actually see the fit of the grakle noseband and boots! (her leggies are weird too hehe) would be awful if they came and were the wrong sizes, so I don't want to take any chances!!

Whereabouts is Enfield?

Why did they tell you to ride her in one? Why did they not explain the reason to you? TBH unless they do that I would not listen to them. You are more than likely going to struggle, changing things up before the ride, than just riding. If she goes really fast round, just close your eyes.

She told me to ride in one because it will give me more say leverage wise. I am going to listen to her, because she knows Chloe, has seen me riding her, and this is what she reccomended. She has a lot more experience than me, and I trust what she is saying, otherwise I wouldn't be having lessons with her. She has also talked to Chloe's old groom, who knows full well what she is like out fast hacking in a group.

The Continental Gag should be worn with 2 reins preferably; the first rein should be used on the snaffle ring, which is the first ring adjacent to the mouthpiece. When the first rein is attached to the snaffle rein it is used just like a loose ring hanging cheek bit, which uses poll pressure and lip pressure due to the sliding loose ring also applies various pressures in the mouth depending on the mouthpiece it is in conjunction with. When the second rein is attached to the ring below, the pressures are increased as the lower rings produce more leverage. In the instance of using 2 reins then this bit can be used as a hanging cheek bit and then when more help is required, the second rein can be brought into play. If the bit is only used with one rein on the lower ring, then the pressure in applied constantly and no pressure release is available for the horse.

The gag produces a head raising action and is often used for cross country and/or jumping where the head needs to be raised quickly in order to gain control and so to get ready for the next jump.

googling "gag" is scarey!

Go to Lester Bowden in Epsom - you have a 10% discount voucher on your WPC show schedule!

see what the clever knowledgeable people who know Chloe think about a 3 ring snaffe - this may be what they're talking about anyway or they make be talking about a Dutch gag. The 3 ring snaffle is the bit that Copper goes in and I think Chloe's quite like him

Why dont you ask the person that reccommended you exactly why they reccommended it to you.

I did. Sorry, that question was worded badly, she did explain to me why she reccomended it for me.

I always say find someone who you trust and listen to them - not my style but that is OK!

eh? It is not your style to find someone who you trust and listen to them?

So, would pelham roundings have a very different effect from that of two reins? Its just I have never used two reins before

well two reins provides a clearer signal to the horse I always have been taught. However dealing with two reins is tricky! Especially when travelling at speed... Most people I know who ride with these snaffles ride off the middle ring on a single rein, if you think of the main ring as having a similar action to a hanging cheek snaffle, and the bottom ring as being the "whooooa!" ring, then the middle ring tends to be your mid-way point.
Does anyone have one to borrow? Is always best to play around with bits first. I think Giggles is talking about the same bit, theyve got loads of names!

Oh I remember that place - there is a lovely old man in there, who I think owns it!! It is quite 'harrods' but it isn't quite harrods, so I'm sure I'll be okay!!

Ahh thanks for reminding me!!

Have started using a 3 ring on my boy - who is normally in a full cheek french link when I school but tanks a bit xcountry & has no brakes SJ if fences are small (which tehy usually are cos I am a chicken)
I have started using a 3 ring with a french link, I ride with a single rein on the big ring ATM, for jumping, but xcountry used roundings....
Have to say I find it brilliant so far...

Does anyone know if the tack shop at Johnny Angelo's is still running? If you are a WPC member that would be quite close to you!
