Hello and greetings to the forum!

This is my first posting here.
Being a horse owner since only two months, I am already missing a saddle after thiefs cleared the tackroom of our yard.

They came at night with a van through the fields, opening gate by gate, after having disassembled two planks from the outermost fence. As the tackroom is about 300 yards away from the owners house, they broke into the wooden-framed door, cleared the tackroom and broke all further locks.

I am missing the following saddle:

Lovatt & Rickets, brown colour, smaller than 18", probably 16", flaps and overall the knee rolls heavily worn .
Actually, the saddle looks older than the company is.

I would recommend you go down to Holmfirth horse market on a saturday as quite a few stolen items can go through their tack auction in the morning. I hope you find it.

Thanks for that hint.

Do you know when it starts and where it is? Rough description, only. I know Holmfirth.

Just in case, I would find it. Can I claim that's mine and it get's sorted properly or will it disappear in the meantime?
Never been to a tack auction before.

Or shall I simply grab it and run while my wife shouts "fire, fire" from the other end?

It is at the cattle market if you know where that is if not I can give directions.
I normally go down at around noonish and they are still on the tack so I would assume early morning (9ish) although I cannot say for certain.
I don't know anything about re-claiming tack sorry if you put another post you may find someone who has recovered their tack from an auction.
Sorry I can't be more help.

Hi dilbert_uk, sorry to hear about your tack being stolen, its a really horrible feeling! Could you tell us which area of Bradford you are in please? My friend had a quad taken from Queensbury lastnight! Maybe they are doing the rounds again?!

Queensbury has the same postcode but I'm not sure if stealing tack and quads is related.

Quads can be joyriders or someone uses them on his own ground. For tack, you go to ebay or on auctions, probably.

Hope you'll get it back without trouble.

Well it is on left just on the main road (Woodhead) as though you are going to Holme, just past Berks Funeral Home on the left, if you hit the garage on the right you have gone too far.

I would claim the tack as yours from the seller (it would be useful if you have any photos of you riding in it) and tell the seller you are about to ring the police. My friend saw her saddle at Holmfirth and had a pic of her sat on the horse with her. She showed the gypsy her pic, stated it was her saddle stolen the week before and she was taking it or the police would be called. He let her walk away with her saddle without saying much!
If you wanted to be clear on your legal position, why not give the police a ring for advice?

As we unfortunately don't have a photo that is a good idea. Probably, we'll pop-up in person at our next police station and then let's hear what they're saying.

On Saturday morning, we went first to the police station and they told us to call 0845 6060606 when we would be absolutely sure to have found our saddle.

Then we headed to the horse market. There were quite a few older saddles but not ours. One saddle was 20 quid ...

Some dealers sell mostly new stuff and others sell only lots of used stuff ... Often very cheap and in bad condition. For example bridles with rusty bits ... really covered with rust ...

Also, ponies in obviously miserable condition were waiting for the auction ...

We bought some buckets and a sack of fresh carrots for one pound. At least, it was interesting to have a look around ...
