Hey everyone ,
I am looking at designing a new tack horse trailer box for my dt project which can both be used for tack storage and then wheeled and used in a trailer for competitions . I would appriciate any feedback on similar products you have , its strengths and weaknesess and any features you think would be an advantage to include .
Thanks

All I know is, I have the IW tack locker and it just gets in the way. My 18" saddle doesnt fit in it, and it is generally a pain!!!

Tack is stored in the car, but I use a 140 ltr wheelie bin for all those miscellaneous bits that you need when you take them out in the trailer. Travel boots, overreach, stud kit, first aid kit, jack for the trailer etc.

The advantages are that it fits in the nose of the trailer, it is easy to wheel about and I can keep all those bits in it that are a pain to leave in the car. The disadvantages are that I can't leave it permanently in the trailer, for fear of it being nicked and it does restrict access to the jockey door a little.

I don't like the IW tack pack. It's too bulky and I can't fit my forward cut jumping saddle in with my dressage saddle and if I do get them in there anything else is crushed in the bottom in a mess. the only good part is the removable 'bucket' at the top, which is handy for studs & boots.

It would need to be lighter, less chunky walls & door so that the space inside was bigger if you know what i mean, with adjusatble/removable saddle poles and perhaps shelf options, so if you only had one saddle you could take one pole out. Actually that's a good idea, to have an options of saddle poles or shelves. I would prefer if it was shelved fully as if it stored EVERYTHING apart from my saddles, they could happily go in the boot on the saddlemate & everything else would be neatly packed in the tack pack out of the way.

How about designing something that you can fit on the front of the trailer on the outside over the draw bar below the window?

when you design something pls let me know! i posted about this yesterday but had no replies!
i was thinking of keeping my saddle on a saddle mate in my truck then getting a cheap set of plastic drawers that could be fixed where a tack pack usually goes for all my kit
i'm also having a friend make up a rug rail that attaches onto the breast bar wall hooks that runs the length of the trailer... confused?? lol i'll post a pics when i'm done

How about some way to store water inside the box cause i always find it really hard to find somewere to get water at a show ( and then having to carry it to the trailer again ) and its also very heavy.
wheels i think are a must because it makes it alot easier to guide up and down the trailers ramp or in and out of the tack room which we seem to do so very often .

thanks for feed back so far , let me know if you have any more suggestions .

there is a water holder alerady that you can attach to the outside of the trailer.... i'm considering getting one - but OH made valid point that it may unbalance it.... so he's going to weight my spare wheel then see how much is the equivelent water in my holder - then only let me carry that much on the opposite side to the wheel... anal? yup!!! bless!
