i was just wondering about people competing in tack that doesn’t match i have a black bridle martingale and 5 point breast plate and a brown saddle
i haven’t competed this horse so i’ve never competed in tack that doesn’t match
does it matter ?

Nick Skelton won Olympic gold with black tack and a brown saddle. You’ll be fine.

Yes it’s more aesthetically pleasing but tack you’re both comfortable with is the main thing.

I’d at no, unless it’s showing and you want to win.
I’ve competed in black bridle, black girth, black stirrup leathers and brown saddle. It was what I had and what fitted. People don’t notice.

No go for it. My OCD wouldn't cope myself but you spot loads out and about.

As long as you're not showing it won't make on iota of difference.

I have taken plenty out without matching tack, it is hard to find a brown dressage saddle and all our bridles are brown so they rarely match, I refuse to get black bridles so we go as we are, honestly once you are on the saddle it hardly gets seen by anyone anyway so ignore any negative thoughts, or comments the judges have better things to think about, the only exception would be showing but it is still seen at times.

I'm currently using a black Micklem bridle - currently using blue reins but do use black or brown reins if taking part in dressage - a brown saddle, a brown girth and black stirrups.

I've competed quite happily in this set up :)

Showing is funny - people say that but I've seen horses win with black saddle & brown bridle! I think how nice the horse is will outshine any tack!

I've had a black bridle and brown saddle for 14yrs! When I got a new (second hand) saddle for the new boy last year, there were two that fitted him the same, one black, one brown. Sadly I prefered the brown one, so I am carrying on the mismatch! Hoping to get him a jump saddle next year, will be trying for a black one!

It has been an ambition to have matching tack. I have a matching dressage saddle/bridle now, but still have brown saddle with black bridle. I just buy whatever works. Usually something is a mis match.
