Warning to all those who have horses on livery in the Leeds area - a small livery yard, just next to our own yard, was broken in to last night and the thieves managed to break open a largish shipping container and take all the tack! Please be vigilant as it would seem our little 'thieving friends' are back in the area again!!!

Not my yard so I don't have a crime reference number. The yard owner came down to our stables today to tell us what had happened. I am sure they will have given the details to the police though.

There was a horse watch message yesterday that there had been a similar theft in Huddersfield the day before. Looks like theives are targeting West Yorkshire again :(

No doubt it will be those same people 'travelling' through the area again! Makes me so angry as we have been targeted a few times but we haven't kept tack at ours for years now. This yard is just one field across from ours though (ie you can see the stables from our stables) and IF the thieves went down the actual entrance then that is between two houses and they'd have had to break through a gate to get there. I am concerned they maybe didn't do this and went through the farmers fields at the back of the yard in which case they would have been sneaking about round the back of our yard too!!!!

eek, we were thinking of getting a container to keep ours at the yard (Horsforth so just a few miles away), will rethink that one, we don't keep anything of value there because of this. They tend to go in through fields if they can, I remember several stone wall being taken down a few years ago to get a trailer, less chance of being spotted/heard.

As Stencilface said, we have a shipping container and they are pretty good but ours has been broken in to 3 times i think and there was another failed attempt! They wanted the generator each time - we now have electricity! It does take some effort to get in to them though so I would rate them security wise - last time they broke in to ours they used an aceteline torch to cut a hole in it!

I do not know what was taken as my mum was the one who was given the information by the yard owner. All I know is that the liveries all keep their tack in the container. Will probably find out more this weekend when we are likely to see some of the liveries.
